Here's To The Start

Let's start this off on the right foot

Alan:
It's July 19, 2018. I'm exhausted, we're all exhausted. It's 5 minutes until 11:00PM. I felt this would be a great opportunity to start a group blog.

One thing that I'm extremely proud of is the vast diversity that we have on this group. I'm very impressed to see so many people from so many different backgrounds come together to hike and adventure with us.

When I first started this idea with Raymond and Steven, we just wanted a place to meet other likeminded individuals. Individuals who love the backcountry as much as we do. So we started The Greenfoot Hiking Club -- then known as "camping hiking backpacking mountaineering group" on facebook -- to connect our friends and family whom also loved the wilderness.

I remember when Brian Tang (Gosling) and I drove to Trona Pinnacles just to take photos. I remember I did that same trip with Jason Hoac... from the beginning of this group, we were essentially founded on impromptu adventures. Obviously, as we grow older and become more busy, our lives tend to deviate away from spontaneity and toward responsibility. I'd like for this group to be a catalyst for change. And not just any change. But good change. Change in which we can all be a part of. Whether that change consists of us doing trail clean ups, or volunteering at a food bank, or simply hiking, I'd like for this group and its members to appreciate the beauty that this world offers and not take it for granted.

Hike the parks, enjoy the wilderness, partake in adventures that may challenge you to your core. Always remember the principles of Leave No Trace (LNT), and always remember to respect the wilderness and to leave it better than how you found it.

We never imagined that we'd eventually have to make a site to support the growing user base. I know that we're still growing, but I just want to say that I'm so happy to have every single one of you as part of our group. One thing that I love most about this group is that I get to hang out with people from all over the spectrum. I can only hope that our group continues to grow and that this group continues to put out high quality events! As always, feel free to create your own events and use our platform to make your voices heard!
